Volunteer Opportunity: 2025 Federal Election Committee

Committee Structure and Objectives

Mazon is looking for 5-10 Election Committee members to help plan and execute a non-partisan public information and action campaign around the upcoming federal election.

The Election Committee has three goals:

  1. Mobilize Canada’s Jewish community around issues of hunger and poverty.

  2. Encourage Jewish community members to consider hunger and poverty when casting their ballot.

  3. Amplify Jewish voices to positively influence party platforms on issues of hunger and poverty.

Activities of the Election Committee include (1) researching the most effective federal policies for reducing hunger and poverty, (2) drafting a form letter urging all parties to prioritize hunger and poverty response in their platforms, and (3) developing a voter guide summarizing major parties’ commitments affecting hunger and poverty.

Examples of previous advocacy materials produced by Mazon are linked below:

The committee will have 1-2 meetings ASAP, hopefully in advance of an election announcement, and operate for 1-2 months during the election. Committee time commitment is flexible: anywhere between 5-20 hours per month will be an impactful contribution to the committee’s work.

Roles:

Communications: Plan outreach strategy and contribute to copywriting. Bigger time commitment of 10-12 hours, more collaboration and regular meetings as a full communications team. Skills: policy literacy, fast and accessible copywriting, familiarity with Jewish community values is an asset.

Researcher: Contribute to goal-setting, and research campaign commitments. Smaller time commitment of 3-5 hours over a week, done flexibly on your own time. Necessary skills: policy literacy, research, accessible copywriting.

*Ideally everyone working on Comms is involved with Research, but not everyone on Research is involved with Comms – however, roles can be completely separate depending on member availability.
